Summary
[edit]Description0012823 Dodrepal temple, Chhotegud Chhattisgarh 067.jpg |
English: Dodrepal temples complex is near Mavleebhata Chhotegud, near the banks of Mandwa stream in Bastar district. It is named after the small remote village Dodrepal. The complex is to the west and is close to the Mandwa waterfalls.
The complex was originally three temples, of which two survive and stand next to each other. These are 11th century Nagara-style temples. Nearby is a small and damaged Telugu inscription in Nagavamsi tradition. This helps date this temple, as well confirms that Bastar was a part of the Telugu speaking kingdoms by late 1st millennium. One of the surviving temples was originally dedicated to Shiva, and still is. The second one was likely dedicated to Vishnu based on the artwork, but now also has Shiva linga. The third temple is completely lost, with only the foundation now visible. Nearby these temples are many damaged and mutilated Hindu artwork. |
