A 12th century Hindu temple in Bastar regions of south Chhattisgarh

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Solah Kambha temple, also referred to as the Solah Khamba mandir, is a 12th century Shiva temple in western part of Barsur, south Chhattisgarh. It exemplifies the Hindu traditions in Bastar region of south Chhattisgarh.

The site consists of 16 pillars, damaged mandapa, damaged sanctum and lost sikhara. The original Shiva linga survives. The temple is relatively simple. Some surviving artwork on doorway lintel is of Gajalakshmi, and among the ruins include those of Ganesha, Vaishnavism and Shakitism.

The ruins of this temple were scattered around this site, much covered by mud. This was excavated in the 2010s by local groups along with a few other temples such as the Peddamma temple ruins. The surviving structure and excavated ruins have been under clean up and restoration efforts.
