Jonathan Hall, fiither of Mrs. Waring, settled on lot 20,in 1822, on a part of the fiirni which he occupied until hisdeath, which occurred in June, 1868. Mr. Hall had beenin the township some years prior to his permanent settle-ment. George Waring came in about the same time as Mr.Hall, for he married the latters daughter in 1824. Hiswidow still survives, and Ls well versed in the early historyof the township. George Waring was born at Constantia,in 1796, and it is claimed by his friends (and the claim isevidently well authenticated) that ho was the first whitechild born in Oswego County. In 1822, Samuel Merry, Esq., .settled at Gilberts Mills,and entered into partnership with Andrus Gilbert. Heresided there until 1837, when he removed to Fhcenix,where he now lives. John Curtis made the first settlement on the State roadin this town in 1826-27, on lot .5, on the farm
