English: The gravestone of Andeeas Edvardsen located in the churchyard of Saint Andrews parish church which is located in the village of Bacton, Norfolk, England. This seaman was killed on the Cargo ship SS Eikhaug when it was torpedoed by German fast attack boat (schnellboot) S-52 Karl Müller of the 4th Flotilla in the early morning hours of September 7th 1941. The SS Eikhaug on a voyage in convoy from Southend to Grangemouth with a cargo of 1745 tons cement. The attack took place some ten miles north of Cromer and the ship sank in around half a minute. The ship had a crew of 18 of which only 4 survived. Along with 'Ditmandson', who was the 1st Engineer age 56, there were 12 Norwegians, including the Captain 'Nygaard', 2 British seaman and one Spaniard. |
