English: Countdown to CoP16: Freshwater turtle species worldwide are in desperate need of conservation as over half of the more than 300 species are threatened with extinction. The outlook is especially grim for Asian freshwater turtles, like the Ryukyu black-breasted leaf turtle (pictured below), since over 75% of the 90+ species found in Asia are considered threatened.
