[edit]Description-10066.2 – Sympistis kappa (18200678808).jpg |
Cuivre River State Park 5/31/15 Paul Dennehy wrote regarding this moth: "According to the revision from 2008, dinalda is a boreal forest species found across Canada in coniferous forests, and it is replaced to the south by the virtually identical S. kappa. I have to assume that kappa is the species that occurs in MO, and also that the MPG dots for dinalda in the Southeast and southern Midwest represent misidentified photos. The "DNA" supported specimen is highly questionable, being from many hundreds of miles south of dinalda's range. Remember that the determinations based on DNA are only as good as the reference specimen they compared to, and there aren't always consistent differences in that one region that they use for barcoding." And he wrote: Sympistis kappa is "what I would label it as until someone told me otherwise." |
