Description
English: Sacrificial well of Berlin-Lichterfelde (Germany), ca. 1000 BC
institution QS:P195,Q157316
During construction works for the Benjamin-Franklin Hospital in Berlin-Lichtefelde, traces of a bronze Age settlement were discovered in 1958. Archaeologists found a well tube made from a hollow oat trunk. It was embedded in the ground to the depth of one and a half metres and filled with 96 ceramic mugs. Inside the mugs, traces of cultivated and wild plants with healing or intoxicating effects were found. They might have been meant as votive offerings to the underworld.
Deutsch: Opferbrunnen von Berlin-Lichterfelde, ca. 1.000 v. Chr.
