Mechanical engineer Alfred E. Gibson (b. 1883?) and his wife are shown observing a welding operation, 1938. The couple, who were both involved in The Wellman Engineering Company, Cleveland, Ohio, had just received an award from the James F. Lincoln Arc Welding Foundation recognizing their scientific contributions to arc welding, especially on low alloy high strength steels. Canadian-born Alfred E. Gibson, president of Wellman Engineering, had just served as president of the American Welding Society. |
