[Portrait of Charlotte Poulton]

1 photograph : albumen print ; sheet 3 x 3 cm.

Notes: Photograph shows Charlotte Poulton (1831-1910), who was born in London, England to George Poulton (1794-1834) and Mary Ann Allen (1796-1883). The Poultons and their five children were visiting New York when George died while travelling to Canada. Charlotte, the youngest child, was subsequently adopted by family friends, David & Ednah Thomas, of Union Springs, New York, who were hosting the Poultons during their stay in the States. In her later years, Charlotte moved to Union, South Carolina, to be with her sister Mary Ann Dawkins (1820-1906). She died in 1910 at the home of her neice [sic] (Mrs. W.H. Roseborough), at Chester, South Carolina. Title devised by Library staff. Photographer not identified. DLC Photograph is housed in an album. Album page has decorative gold borders framing the print. DLC "Charlotte S. Poulton"--written on album page, below photograph. DLC Please use the digital image in the online catalog to preserve the original photograph. Collection of the Library of Congress and the National Museum of African American History & Culture.
