Description
English: A cúpula e a torre do Anexo I do Senado estão, de segunda-feira (14) a quarta-feira (16), iluminados de roxo em alusão ao Dia Internacional da Epilepsia, comemorado sempre na segunda segunda-feira dos meses de fevereiro.

A Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS) estima que cerca de 50 milhões de pessoas no planeta estão diagnosticadas com essa doença neurológica.

De acordo com o Ministério da Saúde (MS), a epilepsia é uma alteração temporária e reversível do funcionamento do cérebro, que não tenha sido causada por febre, drogas ou distúrbios metabólicos. Durante alguns segundos ou minutos, uma parte do cérebro emite sinais incorretos, que podem ficar restritos a esse local ou espalhar-se. A causa precisa da epilepsia é desconhecida, mas estudos apontam lesões cerebrais, infecções e abuso de drogas como possíveis fatores de risco.
