Description
English: 정조가 영조의 글을 봉안하기 위하여 즉위한 해인 1776년에 창건한 창덕궁 후원의 규장각 전경을 그린 그림이다. 정조는 뛰어난 젊은 문신들을 선발하여 이 곳에서 연구에 전념케 함으로써 규장각을 중추적인 학술기관으로 성장시켰다. 규장각이 그림의 주제이기 때문에 화면의 중앙에 규장각을 실제보다 크게 강조하여 그린 다음, 사방에 부속 건물과 주변 경치를 에워싸듯 묘사하였다. 이 그림은 김홍도가 32세 때 그린 작품으로, 특히 초기 본격적인 산수화풍을 엿볼 수 있는 중요한 작품이다.
