中文（臺灣）：本文探討高雄史前居民及其生業文化特徵，其代表性文化分別為大坌坑、牛稠子、大湖、鳳鼻頭、蔦松等文化。
大坌坑文化在小港區有小型農耕聚落遺址，狩獵、捕魚、採貝也是重要生業，人口發展有限，陶器為紅色夾砂的粗繩紋陶。牛稠子文化在左營區等地有更大的農耕聚落遺址，已有社會組織，並以狩獵、捕魚、採貝為輔，與周邊聚落頻繁互動，陶器為紅色夾砂陶。大湖文化，左營區有重要遺址，聚落以農耕為主，也有捕魚、採貝，陶器為含砂的灰黑陶與紅陶。與大湖文化同時的是鳳頭鼻文化，發展與大湖文化略同，對海洋資源有更多利用。最後是蔦松文化，覆鼎金有遺址，農耕聚落規模龐大，狩獵、漁撈為輔，陶器為紅褐色夾砂陶，為西拉雅族的祖先，可能與漢人文獻的「毘舍耶國」有關。 上述5個文化有顯著承續關係，形成以農耕為主，狩獵、漁撈為輔的聚落發展模式，陶器是以紅色夾砂為基礎發展，為西拉雅族的祖先，之後與漢人同化。 |
