中文（繁體）：萬金開教始於1861年西班牙道明會士郭德剛神父來台時，並於1863年起造第一座土塊聖堂，因屢遭火災、地震破壞等情事，直到1869年，當時的良方濟神父在各方教友的支援下購置一片林地，依西班牙古堡建築形式建造今日所見的萬金聖母聖殿。
萬金聖母聖殿當時興建所使用的建材主要以石灰、碎石、木棉、火磚、黑糖及蜂蜜混合而成，完全不見鋼筋結構，不過建築主體卻是堅硬無比；正面為雙塔式教堂，類似西班牙碉堡造型，雙塔中間有一個帶有傳統馬背意象的山牆面，馬背上豎起十字架，山牆上下方分別裝飾著皇冠及道明會的會徽；聖殿內的天花板壁畫及兩側雕刻、後閣樓、講道台、聖母轎皆採用木頭製作，並且融合中國東方及西方歌德式兩種風格。 |
