中文（臺灣）：本文以莊媽江的人生為論述主軸，從文獻與口述，將其放在日治時期高雄港市發展的脈絡下，呈現高雄在現代化下的多元面貌。
在歷來研究中，均認定莊媽江為高雄最早的臺籍西醫，與其弟共同執業的和平醫院，對鹽埕人來說具重要地位。但是對於其在政治社會改革運動的著墨甚少。莊媽江在大正民主浪潮、國際民族自治的影響下，參加臺灣文化協會、臺灣民眾黨，投入反抗日本殖民統治的民族運動，以此自豪。同時也高票當選高雄市議員，提出日人、臺人的待遇要均等的政見。另一方面，其也積極進行社會救助事業與革除不良風俗。但風頭過盛，因「林標事件」，最後遭受日本政府打壓，不得不遷居鳳山避禍，卻終究無法避免，於1941年被拘捕監禁。戰後，其重新振作，以醫學專業對高雄做出諸多貢獻。 從上述可從中看到臺灣知識分子在殖民統治下，不畏風險仍努力為社會發聲的強韌意志。 |
