Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Being not only the terminal station of the North–South Railway between Keelung and Dagou during the Japanese colonial period and the very first train station at Dagou, but also a cargo transportation hub and an important base for trade and commerce in southern Taiwan, this station was declared a historical building by Kaohsiung City Government in 2003. In response to public expectation and to incorporate the elements of railway culture for overall development, the Bureau of Cultural Affairs obtained the consent of the Taiwan Railways Administration to sponsor the main station buildings and land at the southern side of the station in September 2010 for the establishment of the Dagou Railway Museum, which was opened on October 24, 2010 in celebration of the 102nd anniversary of the North-South Railway. It was a profound demonstration of repurposing and conservation of our cultural heritage. The station office was preserved in its original appearance to reproduce its glory in the 1960s. Moreover, railway-related works are available for reading while railway relics are exhibited.
