English: The Mei-Feng Headquarters of National Taiwan University Highland Experimental Farm is nestled in Central Taiwan's mountain range at 2,100 meters above the sea level. Although weather in Mei-Feng is generally pleasant, winter can still be bone-chilling and unbearable. Before electric heating devices became prevalent, all-metal stoves provided the major source of heat to the Farm's offices and dormitories. Since the 21th century stoves of this type have been gradually retired convenience-wise and safety-wise. Gleaning and hoarding fuelwood, however, remains to be part of the collective memory of the "highland farmers" of the bygone generation. |
