Description
中文（臺灣）：羅東城隍廟原為大眾爺廟，創建於1815（清嘉慶20）年，在現廟址對面（西側）原為塚埔，故在羅東農會現址創建了大眾廟。至日治中期，台灣總督府施行地方制度改正，羅東與宜蘭、蘇澳同設為宜蘭三郡。羅東當地仕紳或視此種行政區域調整使得羅東提升至與宜蘭同等行政層級，故而提出「陽有郡守，陰無城隍」的論述，以推動設置城隍廟。因此藉由1933（日昭和8）年重修清嘉慶年間大眾廟，將主祀神改為「城隍老爺」；但因日本殖民政府限縮宗教政策，故暫以佛寺「慈德寺」登記，主祀觀音佛祖。至於正名為「城隍廟」，則遲至1993年。
