Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Jhuliao hydro-pump station was completed in 1913 to pump in source water and feed the tap water system of the entire old Dagou area. The station’s main structure is built with red bricks and the traditional double-sloped roof is supported by a large-span wooden frame. However, the side walls are not of traditional style. They are composed of eye-catching arches, giving the building a touch of Western architectural style. The spacious interior is large enough to house the latest model power pump; the pump draws water from the Gaoping River and pumps it up to water processing facility. Here, the water is purified before it is gravitated to the city’s water system. This hydro-pump station not only marked a great advancement for Kaohsiung in modern history, but also helped to eradicate contagious diseases among the dense population.
