Description
中文：石坂莊作，是日治時期雨港屬一屬二的工商鉅子，也是臺灣社教文化的先驅，出生於1870年（明治9年），日本群馬縣吾妻郡原町人，於1896年（明治29年）5月，以隨軍記者身份抵台。1898（明治31年）年擔任「臺灣日日新報社」會計主任，1899年（明治32年）定居基隆，從事「度量衡器材」的生意，因而致富。

石坂莊作在事業成功後，熱心於教育、文史工作，於1903年（明治36年）創辦「基隆夜學校」（後更名為「基隆商業專修學校」，即今「私立光隆家商職校」的前身），首創基隆私人興學的先例；專收小學畢業、而家境清寒的日、臺籍子弟，且一律免收學雜費。學校草創之初，學校所有經費，全由石坂莊作獨立捐助。
1909年（明治42年）10月1日，開立圖書館「石坂文庫」，以民間個人之力經營；首創全臺「圖書巡迴」、「創設分館」的圖書館營運模式。1939年（昭和14年）4月，擔任「基隆技藝女學校」（後更名為「市立基隆家政女學校」）的首任校長。

石坂莊作於1940年（昭和15年）病逝於基隆，享壽71歲。石坂莊作寓台40多年裡，出版有一系列鄉土文史的專著，如《臺灣踏查實記》、《臺灣寫真帖》、《基隆港》等。
