Description
English: 深光寺(文京区小日向)

聞きかじりの知識だが、江戸中期頃になると豊かになった町人が自分たちの経済力を誇示するために墓石に仏像を彫ることが流行り、そうした墓標が大量に作られて流通したという。

今は無縁仏となった墓標が境内の一角に集められて、時にはピラミッドのように積まれたものを目にするが、深光寺にも江戸年間の墓標が多数あって、この如意輪観音坐像もその中の一部だ。同じように片膝を立てた輪王坐の観音像が大中小と並んでいるのが面白かったのだが、並べた人も同じ狙いだったかもしれない。--原典 flickr より
