Description
中文(臺灣):「埔里社輕鐵線」全長約20.6公里,從埔里出發通往水頭,經由耶馬溪峽谷,經過加道坑、大林、五城然後到湳仔(名間),接續明治製糖的二水線至南投或二水接縱貫鐵路,後由於集集線完成,才縮減為埔里至外車埕(今水里鄉車埕)。

圖為大正2年(1913)左右,距埔里社起點約3哩的牛洞隧道舊風景,是埔里社明所之一,位於埔里鎮與魚池鄉東光村的交界處,有小中橫之美稱。沿著牛洞有聳立的石崖、石壁,有靜謐的山間溪谷、清爽的山風、婉轉的鳥鳴,是一處清靜宜人的地方。「牛洞」地名的由來,是古早生番常以該地為據點出草掠牛,然後在峽谷裡殺食牛隻,漢人便稱之為「牛洞」,到了日治時期稱這裡為「耶瑪溪峽谷」。
