中文（臺灣）：西元1629年西班牙人入據淡水，於河口北岸山丘上建一礮臺，稱聖多明哥城，做為台北盆地貿易、傳教的據點。西元1642年，荷蘭人北上擊敗西班牙，西班牙人撤走時將城破壞。西元1644年，荷人重新建造一座更為堅固的聖安東尼奧城，因為當時國人稱荷蘭人為紅毛番，因此俗稱此城為紅毛城。清雍正二年（1724）淡水同知王汧增建圍牆及東、西、南、北、四座城門，做為兵營，今僅存南門。同治六年（1867）英國與清廷訂立「紅毛城永久租約」，第二年英國將領事館設在紅毛城內。英國人將紅毛城大事修改，二樓充為辦公室，底樓改為監獄。據說花了一百五十兩的經費。另外城頂的雉堞也修改，又增建露臺做為辦公室的一大陽臺。光緒十七年（1891），英國在紅毛城的東側新建領事官邸，領事官邸是一座二層磚造的洋房。 |
