Description
中文：「李登輝總統蒞礦並入坑巡視」照片，拍攝時間為李登輝擔任臺灣省主席任內，因此應為1981年（民國70年）至1984年（民國73年）間，李登輝於1984年（民國73年）當選中華民國第7任副總統。

照片內，李登輝手持一管線物巡視，在其身後尾隨、圍繞數人；眾人皆配戴探照燈頭盔，好方便在崎嶇、幽暗的礦坑內行動。坑道上方的結構物，其帶來的壓迫感，也直指出礦工高生命風險的工作環境。
基隆的煤礦業，由拖籠坑、菜仔油燈、鶴嘴鋤、挑運以至近代的大型斜坑、海底採煤、機械化採煤、鋼柱樑支撑、機械化運搬等，創造了在薄層煤環境下，開採深度達千公尺的世界紀錄，這是一件值得驕傲的事實。

然而，石油入侵能源市場後，隨著：(1)臺灣煤炭的礦源逐漸枯竭、(2)開採成本相對高昂、(3)臺灣產業結構轉型的情況下，臺灣煤礦，逐漸失去其主角地位。而基隆煤礦，自然無法倖免相同的命運，在石油的競銷下，基隆煤業也呈現衰微而走下坡。
