Description
中文（臺灣）：埔里大坪頂現在的主要耕作作物是菜頭等夏季蔬菜與百香果為大宗，這裡有一望無際的美麗的山坡地形，可媲美北海道的富良野，百年前原屬於「埔里社製糖會社」於明治43(1910)年申請的農場開墾地，開始砍除滿山的森林栽種甘蔗以製糖。大正2年(1913)「台灣糖業株式會社」(今稱台糖公司)併購埔里社製糖會社後，從此成為台灣糖業株式會社埔里製糖所的「太平頂農場」。

這張由林志明醫師提供「埔里社農場太平頂開墾地」，屬於埔里糖業發展歷史珍貴的老影像，原出自臺灣製糖株式會社於大正4年(1915)出版的《創立十五週年記念》寫真帖，影像附有說明，大意為「埔里社大平頂開墾地全景大觀，遠方平野滿是蔗園，中央蓋有幾間「藁小屋」(茅草屋)做為勞働者的休憩所，休憩所前可見載甘蔗的台車鐵道行駛其間」。
