在鳥類的演化中,有一群特殊的鳥類,放棄了在空中自由的翱翔,選擇了我們所熟悉的陸地生活,他們就是平胸鳥類,如鴕鳥、鴯鶓與鷸鴕等,相比那些善於飛行的鳥,他們最大的差異為胸骨。飛行鳥類的胸骨擁有發達的龍骨突,而平胸鳥類則沒有龍骨突,因此無法提供大量的肌肉附著,導致喪失飛行能力。

English: During the evolution of birds, a unique group, known as ratites, lost the ability to freely fly through the air, resulting in a terrestrial lifestyle that is more familiar to us. They include ostriches, emus, and kiwi birds. Compared with birds that fly, the major difference is in their sternum. In flying birds, the sternum has a well-developed keel structure, while in ratites, the keel is not well or not at all developed. Therefore, there is no place for the larger number of muscles needed for flight to attach, resulting in the loss of flying ability. |
