Deutsch: Der Daumen als Spiegel des Mitgefühls: Der nach unten zeigende Daumen von Nero signalisierte den Gladiatoren in der Arena „kein Mitgefühl“ – im Gegensatz zum nach oben gestreckten Daumen („Gnade“), der bis heute „Mitfreude“ signalisiert. Auch das Daumen-Drücken ist ein Ausdruck davon, dass man mit jemandem mitfühlt/mitfiebert.
