فارسی: یونجه(ترکی)به معنی علف مادهااولین بار توسط مادها برای تأمین غذای اسب هایشان اهلی گردید. یونجه اصولاً مبدأ کویری دارد ودر حال حاضر در تمام مناطق معتدل و شبه قاره کشت میگردد.
العربية: يعد البِـرْسِـيم الحجازي أهم محاصيل العلف وبالأخص لأبقار الحليب. يستعمل أيضاً كنبات مراعي وكعلف للمواشي.
