English: Sculpture of the sails, by the Egyptian sculptor Fathi Mahmoud, in front of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, until his white sails announce the beginning of the Azarita neighborhood. The sculpture is inspired by the story of the creation of Alexandria through an ancient myth of the god of the sea, sometimes represented by a bull who has tightened his grip on a beautiful girl symbolizing Alexandria. The Sculpture of Sails was erected in 1968 on an ancient boulder known as Ras Lokias. It is characterized by a long series of rocks. The remains of Alexandria's Greek walls were discovered under the waters of the chain, as well as the remains of pillars, crowns and silver coins.
