English: Sepphoris
(Tzipori) was an ancient city in the center of the lower Galilee, five kilometers northwest of Nazareth. A settlement existed there as early as the Iron Age II, and a Jewish city existed there from the Hasmonean period and the 5th century AD, when Jews lived in the area until the 10th century. Bird site is a national park that covers an area of about 16 square kilometers. The park was opened to the public in 1992. Excavations in the park have not yet been completed. עברית: צִיפּוֹרִי הייתה עיר עתיקה במרכז הגליל התחתון, חמישה קילומטרים מצפון מערב לנצרת. יישוב היה קיים במקום כבר בתקופת הברזל II, ועיר יהודית התקיימה בו מתקופת החשמונאים ועדהמאה ה-5 לספירה, כאשר יהודים ישבו באזור עד המאה ה-10. אתר ציפורי הוא גן לאומי המשתרע על שטח של כ-16 קמ"ר. הגן נפתח לציבור בשנת 1992. החפירות בגן טרם הסתיימו. |
