Изображен в латах и треуголке; в руке фельдмаршальский жезл; с орденами святого Андрея Первозванного (лента и звезда) и святого Иоанна Иерусалимского (командорский крест и звезда). |

Notes | Происходит из собрания графов Шереметевых, в 1905 находился в Фонтанном доме и экспонировался на Таврической выставке (Петербург 1905*) как работа И. П. Аргунова (Каталог Таврической выставки**, № 47, с. 8). В 1938 Г. Е. Лебедев приписал портрет Шурманну (Лебедев 1938***, с. 116). Однако В. К Станюкович, автор статьи „Крепостные художники дома Шереметевых XVIII века" (1939. Рукопись. Научный архив Останкинского музея, № 241, с. 60-61), и Т. А. Селинова, автор монографии о творчестве И. П. Аргунова, сомневались и в авторстве портрета, и в самом существовании художника, поскольку в списках живописцев графов Шереметевых имени Шурманна обнаружить не удалось. Новое прочтение подписи лишает подобные поиски всякого основания. В этой связи не выдерживает критики и датировка Т. А. Селиновой портрета второй половиной XVIII века (Селинова 1973****, с.114). Подпись Karl Schurmann pictor ducalis curl... определенно указывает на то, что Шурманн был живописцем герцога Курляндского. В период написания портрета (1710) герцогом Курляндским был муж Анны Иоанновны Фридрих Вильгельм, после смерти которого в 1711 курляндский престол унаследовал герцог Фердинанд. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
