Это -единственное оставленное большевиками, хотя и в обезглавленном виде, в Петербурге здание, созданное по проекту петербургского немцаТона Константина Андреевича (1794 -1881), - архитектора, возглавившего движение национального возрождения русской церковной, а затем и гражданской архитектуры. Как архитектор Его Императорского Величества он работал под пристальным вниманием Николая Первого.
