Українська: Народився в Константинополі і отримав гарну освіту в юності. У 16 років переїхав до Єгипту на Синайську гору і зрадив себе в послух старцю Мартир [1]. Через чотири роки слухняності прийняв чернечий постриг. Після смерті старця Мартирія, під послухом у якого Іоанн прожив близько 19 років, святий обрав усамітнене життя і провів ще 40 років в пустелі Тола. Згодом у віці 65 років Іоанн Ліствичник був обраний братією ігуменом Синайської обителі і керував монастирем чотири роки. Святий помер, за даними з деяких джерел, в 649 році у віці 70 років. Місцезнаходження мощей Іоанна невідомо.
English: Born in Constantinople and received a good education in his youth. At the age of 16 he moved to Egypt on Mount Sinai and surrendered himself into obedience to the elder Martyrius [1]. After four years of obedience, he took monastic vows. After the death of Elder Martyrius, in obedience to whom John lived for about 19 years, the saint chose a hermitic life and spent another 40 years in the Fola desert. Subsequently, at the age of 65, John Climacus was elected by the brethren as hegumen of the Sinai monastery and ruled the monastery for four years. The saint died, according to some sources, in 649 at the age of 70. The location of John's relics is unknown. |
