Histological Mallory's trichrome stain, 400x magnification.
The photo shows the causative agents coccidia in endogenous tissue stages of development at parasitic disease coccidiosis in laboratory mouse. Mallory's tissue staining is widely used, in particular in pathomorphological studies to identify connective tissues. In this method, the combination of three dyes provides a spectacular histological image: 1) carbolfuchsin stains cell nuclei and elastic fibers in pale pink or red; 2) orange G stains the cytoplasm in yellow – orange, 3) aniline blue – highly selective stains collagen in dark blue, and cartilage, bone, mucus, amyloid – from pale to dark blue. Information is important given the spread of this disease among laboratory animals, which may mimic experimental pathology, especially with routine Haematoxylin and Eosin staining. Authors: Shynkevych Victoriia (obtaining a photomicrograph), Brazhnyk Tetyana (autopsy, paraffin embedded, making and staining paraffin sections), Kaidashev Igor (identification of pathology and pathogens, author of the research project).
