В 2010 году исполнилось 140 лет со дня учреждения Богородичного Щегловского мужского монастыря. Весь комплекс монастыря был построен в течение 6 лет. Закладка главного храма состоялась 20 мая 1860 года. Одновременно с ним строились ограда с четырьмя угловыми башнями, Святые врата с надвратной колокольней, корпуса для монашеских келий, настоятельский корпус. Для колокольни в 1861 г. в Харькове были отлиты 9 колоколов. Монастырь был закрыт в 1920-1922 гг. Во время Великой Отечественной войны подвальные помещения монастырских церквей использовались под бомбоубежища. К началу 1990-х годов монастырь представлял собой печальное зрелище. В 1990 году комплекс зданий монастыря был передан в бессрочное безвозмездное пользование Тульской епархии. Огромная заслуга в возрождениии монастыря принадлежит протоиерею Льву Павловичу Махно, которому было поручено заниматься ремонтно-восстановительными работами. Сегодня ансамбль Щегловского монастыря — одно из красивейших мест Тулы.
