English: Anathamatization of Nestorius at the Third Ecumenical Council. A fresco by Dionsysius. 1502
Русский: Анафематствование Нестория на Третьем Вселенском соборе. Фреска Дионисия, ок. 1502 г. Эфесский, против ереси Нестория, собор созван в 431 г. при императоре Феодосии Младшем в Эфесе (Малая Азия); присутствовало 200 епископов, среди них святители Кирилл Александрийский, Ювеналий Иерусалимский, Мемнон Ефесский. Собор осудил ересь Нестория, отрицавшего православное учение о двух природах Христа и отказавшегося именовать Деву Марию Богородицей, и подтвердил учение о том, что в Господе Иисусе Христе следует исповедовать одно лицо (ипостась) и два естества — Божественное и Человеческое, а Пречистую Матерь Господню восхвалять как Приснодеву и истинную Богородицу. Воспоминание 9 (22) сентября. На переднем плане изображено снятие святительских одежд с лишенного сана константинопольского патриарха Нестория.
