Русский: Обводный канал прорыт, чтобы ослабить наводнения. Время и наука показали, что в деле борьбы с наводнениями Обводный канал бесполезен. Зато он оказался удобен для грузовых перевозок, соединив разные промышленные зоны между морским портом и речным, находившимся на Неве близ Александро-Невской лавры. По каналу также осуществляли сплав леса.
