Decomposition of potassium permanganate, or Space in a cup

Summary

[edit]
Description

English: Due to the property of changing color during decomposition, the reaction is called a mineral chameleon. This property is reflected in the photo: oxygen creates bubbles on the surface, when manganese oxide rises, the mixture takes the color of fuchsia, after which potassium hydroxide comes into play - a dark brown color with a yellowish foam resembles Coca-Cola. This is not for nothing: there is a sugar colorant in soda, obtained from burnt sugar. Due to oxidation under the influence of dark temperature, it becomes so, the same color can be obtained by mixing sulfuric acid and sugar. In the case of oxidation of potassium permanganate, the role of "sugar" is played by a residual mixture of potassium hydrogen. PS Perhaps this is unscientific, but I think it deserves attention at least in design. Take a look at this "cosmic" print of foam permanganate. Beauty!
