О ктиторима и времену градње постоји више претпоставки, предања и различитих доказа, На ктиторској композицији исписана су имена: Оливер, Дејан, Брата, и Константин, Приликом ископавања пронађени су остаци сахрањене породице ктитора, Први пут се помиње у Повељи кнеза Лазара манастиру Светог Пантелејмона на Светој Гори, Према турски пописима живот у манастиру може се пратити до краја 16. века, Обновљен је у доба кнеза Милоша Обреновића, У анализама се истиче сличност са црквом Лазарицом, али и докази да је задужбина деспота Иваниша.English: It used to be called Srebrnica and the Monastery of the Mother of God of Bučanj,
