English: Common moorhen (Gallinula chloropus) is a small, pigeon-sized, waterfowl from the shepherd family, widely distributed on all continents, except for Australia and Antarctica. A typical inhabitant of various reservoirs with stagnant or flowing water and swampy, overgrown shores. Usually leads a hidden lifestyle - despite its wide distribution, this bird can be difficult to see in the wild. However, in densely populated areas of Europe, birds often get used to the presence of humans. The scientific name of the bird can be translated from Latin as "green-legged chicken", which indicates some external similarity with domestic chickens. In Europe, they nest almost everywhere, with the exception of the high mountain areas of the Alps, the Scandinavian Peninsula north of 66° north latitude and northern Russia. A nesting, migratory, wintering species in Ukraine. Nests throughout the country, except for the Carpathians; migrates everywhere; it regularly winters in the Transcarpathian plain and in the south, sometimes it occurs in winter on reservoirs deep inland.
