Description

Cossyphus (Reinforced Darkling Beetles) is the genus of Coleoptera, Darkling beetle family. Head completely covered the front of the pronotum and the top is not visible. The lateral edges of the elytra is also widely flattened. Body is flat. Distribution - Albania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, European Turkey, Greece, Italia, Crete, Sardinia, Sicily, Crimea (was considered extinct in the Crimea, it is not found after 1972, but a few instances were found in 1998). It is included to the Red Book of the Rostov region of Russia.

Cossyphus - род жесткокрылых из семейства чернотелок. Голова полностью покрыта передней частью переднеспинки и сверху не видна. Боковые края надкрылий также широко распластаны. Тело плоское. Распространение - Албания, Болгария, Кипр, европейская часть Турции, Греция, Италия, Крит, Сардиния, Сицилия. Коссифус крымский считался вымершим в Крыму, его не находили с 1972 года, однако в 1998 было найдено несколько экземпляров. Встречается и в других южных районах России, включен в Красную книгу Ростовской области.
