Description
Українська: Богомол звичайний (Mantis religiosa) – мабуть, одна з найдивовижніших, і найдивніших комах на нашій планеті. Назву богомолу у 1758 році дав шведський натураліст Карл Ліней, який звернув увагу, на те, що поза богомола, перебуваючого в засідці і чатуючого здобич дуже схожа на позу людини, яка склала руки в молитві Богу. Через настільки разючу схожість вчений дав комасі латинську назву «Mantis religiosa», що буквально перекладається, як «релігійний жрець», в нашу ж мову прийшла власне назва «богомол».Більшість видів богомолів України знаходяться на північно-західній чи північно-східній межі ареалу, зустрічаються нечасто, тому 4 з 7 видів занесені до Червоної книги України.
English: The European mantis (Mantis religiosa) is a large hemimetabolic insect in the family of the Mantidae ('mantids').
