Description
Español: La obra representa a San Francisco de Asís en actitud extática y contemplando a un ángel que toca un violín, y procede del claustro chico del desaparecido convento de San Francisco de Sevilla, y la escena que se desarrolla en el lienzo está inspirada en un pasaje de los escritos de San Buenaventura, que fue el primer biógrafo de San Francisco de Asís, protagonista de esta obra y fundador de la Orden de los Franciscanos. Y según consta en dicho relato en una ocasión en que el santo de Asís se hallaba gravemente enfermo sintió deseos de oir musica, aunque no era posible satisfacer su deseo, y una noche en que estaba rezando oyó súbitamente una música bellísima y le invadió una sensación de tal gozo que le pareció haber dejado ya este mundo.
