?Post-medieval mount |

Description |
English: Silvered copper alloy badge. The badge is flat and shield shaped, with concave sides and faceted corners. The face of the badge is decorated with three standing figures in relief. There is what appears to be a male to the right, perhaps wearing body armour, and perhaps a female to the left. There is a small child standing by the females legs. Between the female and the male there is a long staff down the centre. There is a small incomplete, integral shank on the reverse.
Geoff Egan writes: 'The badge might be Continental (not openwork) - probably French or Iberian, and the prominent scallops may here actually mean Compostela.' |
