Summary
[edit]Description'Sir Cosmo Bonsor' at Smitham station - geograph.org.uk - 859508.jpg |
English: 'Sir Cosmo Bonsor' at Smitham station The unit shown here, 456 024, is unique: not only was it the only member of its class to receive the yellow Connex South Central livery, but it was also the only one to be given a name, 'Sir Cosmo Bonsor'. Sir Cosmo was a landowner in the Kingswood area who, by giving land, facilitated the construction of the Tattenham Corner railway, so it is appropriate that the unit should be working on this branch. It was later repainted into Southern green livery, but retained the name. The unit was transferred to South West Trains, along with all other Class 456s, in 2014. Smitham station was renamed Coulsdon Town in 2011 because the name "Smitham" is no longer used for the local area. |
