Summary
[edit]Description'STEAM' museum, Kemble Drive, Swindon - geograph.org.uk - 545100.jpg |
English: 'STEAM' museum, Kemble Drive, Swindon The museum celebrates the years between 1843 and 1986 when Swindon was home to the Great Western Railway manufacturing centre where locomotives, carriages and wagons were built and repaired. It is housed in what used to be 'R' shop. A feature of the museum is the use of tableaux to illustrate a facet of life in the works. In this one Isambard Kingdom Brunel stands proudly before a replica (built in 1925) of the broad gauge 'North Star'. Although not apparent at this resolution the great man does have his famous cigar as can be seen in the full-size image http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3285/3062868676_c8b4263e3a_o.jpg |
