On 30 September 1924, Truman Streckfus Persons, better known as Truman Capote, was born. Capote was an accomplished writer and is perhaps best remembered for his novella Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1958), which was later adapted in to a film featuring Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard. The images above come from a 35mm film strip of censored cuts from the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany’s. It is one of many 35mm film strips literally cut from the film’s trailer. Archives New Zealand holds close to 8,000 rolls of material cut from feature films and/or trailers, with the majority of these rolls including multiple individual cuts. Most are 35mm (the cinematic standard), but there is also quite a bit of 16mm film and a small number of 70mm rolls. These cuts, as well as the censor's daybooks containing notes on the films, can be found in the Censor's Film Cuts and Daybooks series (www.archway.archives.govt.nz/ViewEntity.do?code=W4515).
