Summary

[edit]
Description
English: "Tele" extension site, Belfast. See 322831. At a time when it was fashionable for businesses to move to peripheral industrial sites, the "Belfast Telegraph" decided to build an extension (to house new printing equipment) beside its existing site in Royal Avenue. This involved the demolition of part of the south western side of (upper) Donegall Street, a place which had fallen into disrepair since the closure of Robinson's Temperance Hotel - an early victim of the fall in business after the start of the bombing campaign. The cleared site (at the corner of the two streets) is seen from the grounds of the Art College. The white building (middle right) was Cavendish Woodhouse - another name from retail history.
