Description
English: Hyökkäys (The Attack). Oil on canvas. In the painting, the Russian doubleheaded eagle is attacking the maiden symbolizing Finland, tearing a law book. Immediately after the painting was finalized, it became the symbol of protest against russification, spreading throughout Finland in thousands of prints.
Suomi: Hyökkäys. Öljy kankaalle. Venäjän kaksipäinen kotka hyökkää Suomi-neitoa vastaan repien lakikirjaa. Teos muodostui heti valmistuttuaan merkittäväksi osaksi protestia venäläistämistoimenpiteitä vastaan ja levisi ympäri Suomea tuhansina painokuvina.
Français : L'aigle russe à deux têtes veut arracher le Livre des Lois des mains de la Finlande. Cette peinture, très célèbre à l'époque, est liée à la volonté de russification de la Finlande au début du règne de Nicolas II. Le Musée national de Finlande présente l'histoire de ce pays depuis la Préhistoire jusqu'à nos jours. Il comprend une importante partie ethnographique.
