English: "Claremont", Clarendon Road, Leeds Built in 1772 for John Elam a Quaker merchant until 1840 when purchased by John Atkinson who then began developing the grounds until in 1856 when Dr John Deakin Heaton physician and co-founder of the Yorkshire College bought the house and had a new entrance and bay windows added,at some point later it was used as a nursing home for a number of years but from 1968 the house has belonged to The Yorkshire Archaeological Society and Thoresby Society. |
