English: RED-CLIP EAGLE, soldier (Pyrrhocoris apterus), common representative of a small family. red bugs (Pyrrhocoridae, approx. 400 species; 2 genera, 5 species are represented in Russia), neg. half-winged. Body length 7–12 mm. Widely distributed in the West. half of Eurasia. They live on the soil, eat preim. fallen tree seeds, often form large clusters on trunks, stumps and other warmed places, especially in early spring. (Great Russian Encyclopedia. Electronic version.)
